The availability of a new full line of power oil pumps covering the 50 to 1000 horsepower range is announced by Ajax Iron Works.
The new Ajax plunger pumps are of a design that incorporated inherent advantages attainable only with vertical pumps. The use of vertical tie-rod construction locates the fluid-end cylinder between power frame and plunger stuffing boxes, placing these load members in compression during the discharge stroke of the plunger and thus preventing bolt stressing or breathing between frame and cylinder. Moreover, since pumped fluid has no entry course into the power-end, power-end contamination is precluded.
For power oil service, Ajax equips its pumps with an exclusive blow-out proof floating seal stuffing box. This box is an Ajax innovation that was initially developed for highly critical nuclear power pump service and later adapted for more rugged oilfield use. The floating seal stuffing box gives extended life to both plungers and packing. In the Ajax floating seal arrangement, spring-loaded packing ring segments are precision fit to the pump plunger. Lubrication is introduced through the lower portion of the packing case and a special lip-type of packing at the upper end of the stuffing box prevents overflow of packing weep age. Packing ring segments are normally supplied in bronze for use with ceramic or colmonoy plungers. Special Ajax carbon impregnated Teflon rings are used for high pressure applications with colmonoy plungers. Other special materials are available for high pressure, high temperature application.
Because of their design advantages and proven performance, early models of the Ajax vertical hydraulic pump have found favor among many operators using hydraulic sub-surface pumping systems. Ajax pumps provide economical power proportioned to the needs of Kobe down well hydraulic pumping systems and to other systems such as those manufactured by Sargent and Fluid Packed Pump. Ajax units in these systems have been installed both on land and offshore, often as replacements for less dependable or under-powered equipment.
Optional electric motor or engine drive is available. For electric prime movers, Ajax pumps are equipped with an optional mounted integral gear reducer that can be selected to accommodate a wide range of electric motors and speeds. Engine driven packages utilizing matched Ajax two-cycle drivers are standard and multi-cylinder engine driven packages can be built to special order.
Ajax has been a specialist in heavy duty oilfield equipment for over ninety years. Ajax sales, service, and distribution points are widely spread over today's oilfield country. In addition to its normal oilfield supply house distribution for plunger pumps, Ajax also offers power oil pumps through Kobe, In corporated.
