Looking for Clues to Mystery Engines
This month's engine is another return flue, but who made it we can't say. Judging by the small drivers and the overall size of the machine, we'd guess this to be about a 12 HP unit. The forward-mounted flywheel should be a good clue, and note the piping from the steam dome. Those boys look ready to thresh, don't they?
John Spalding, 112 Carriage Place, Hendersonville, TN 37035, supplied the photo, but no other information. We do know that the thresher is a Case (the Case name is just visible on the rear flank). As ever, the first person to correctly guess its identity gets a free copy of Steam Engine Guide by Prof. P.F. Rose.
